With the Dementia Competence Centre in Nuremberg, for the first time in Germany in 2006 an institution was established which offers a continuous chain of preventive, medical and therapeutic treatment as well as care-giving and guidance for dementia patients and their families. In the Tilly Park residential area, the Berlin architectural office feddersenarchitekten designed a five-storey front building which stands out in the urban development and has rooms for consulting and events as well as a nursing school. In the back part of the terrain are three staggered, three-storey pavilion buildings linked with glazed stairwells to a residential complex for 96 persons. Twelve rooms each are grouped into one residential unit around a central kitchen and an adjacent common loggia. The three different types of layout Patio, Janus and Farmhouse parlour add variation to the residential complex and offer different living atmospheres.
